Ancestry.co.uk MediaRoom - Job Vacancies: "Ancestry.co.uk (part of The Generations Network) is one of the fastest growing paid Internet subscription services in the world. It provides the largest collection of online family history records and enables individuals to explore their own personal histories and connect with others doing the same.

We are currently looking for a PR Manager with 5-7 years experience to promote the UK website and collections within the media. This position will report to the European PR Director and is based in Hammersmith, West London."

Role description

Develop and execute the UK public relations strategy to ensure that all potential PR opportunities are fully exploited

  • Coordinate media events to support new collection launches, including coordinating external suppliers, drafting materials and conducting interviews
  • Draft and sell-in press releases to UK media, ensuring that they strike the balance between historical accuracy and commercial appeal (newsworthy)
  • Draft monthly email communications to trade media and cultivate beneficial relationships with both trade and mainstream target media
  • Manage output of the UK public relations agency including spend, quality control and appropriate third party representation of the Ancestry brand
  • Coordinate and attend UK trade shows
  • Contribute to the development of solid relationships with key UK partners including archives, libraries and associations
  • Evaluate and report PR results to the business
  • Support European PR Director ad hoc on other sites’ PR activity
Required skills / performance
  • A minimum of seven years experience working in the UK PR industry, and a minimum of two years working with or for an online company
  • Excellent written and communication skills, in a style appropriate both to media and internal audiences at all levels of the business
  • Experience managing media launch events and major press campaigns
  • Experience managing external agencies and other suppliers to ensure that the PR strategy is executed effectively, on time and to budget
  • A sound understanding and experience of the way in which the UK media operates
  • Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
